Care and safety
The pieces from cathelier are designed, laser-cut and engraved in a small workshop in Castelo Branco, and finished by hand. They do not require maintenance; however, they do need some care, such as cleaning them with a dry cloth, and they should be kept in a place without high humidity or excessive heat.
They are decorative pieces
A piece from cathelier is meant to be given as a gift, hung, placed, or kept. It is not a toy, and should not be given to a small child to play with.
These warnings appear on the page of all pieces:
- A decorative piece: this is not a toy.
- Not suitable for children under 3 without adult supervision.
- Laser-engraved wood: keep it away from water, damp and heat.
- Wipe with a dry cloth. Never with water or solvents.

Some pieces have a specific risk unique to them — a magnet, acrylic, glass, a hanging string — and come with their own warning. They are all listed here, and each one can also be found on its respective piece's page.

How to care for a wooden piece
Dust with a soft, dry cloth. Never use water, solvents, or anything abrasive: they can stain the wood and damage the engraving.
Store it away from water and humidity, and away from heat — radiators, fireplaces, stoves.
Avoid direct sunlight. Over the months, strong light will change the tone of the wood.
If something goes wrong
If a piece arrives damaged or breaks, please write to us before attempting to fix it, preferably with a photograph. If you purchased from us as a consumer, you have 3 years of legal guarantee starting from the date of delivery.
Repair parts
As manufacturers, we keep the necessary parts available to repair each piece for 10 years after the last unit of that model has been placed on the market (Article 21 of Decree-Law no. 84/2021). If you need a repair, please write to us.
